Name: Teddie
Series: Persona 4
Timeline: End of the game, True Ending (Vanilla version)
Canon Resource Links: Warning: Bears ahead
Personality: The first impression Teddie gives, other than being a giant talking stuffed bear thing, is that he's a big friendly dork. Teddie, in a nutshell, is described as the group clown; he acts just as ridiculous as he appears. He loves to laugh, have a good time, make corny jokes, and especially likes to sprinkle what he says with a bear pun or two. (Even if they don't make much sense.) He's pretty much a cheerful kind of bear.
Like, for example, he likes to cheerfully look through all your stuff. Curiosity is a rather strong factor to Teddie's character. Lots and lots of things are still 'new' for him, as such he tends to poke his nose in places it probably shouldn't be or gets carried away when investigating new places. Yukiko mentions during their first shopping trip at Junes that Teddie messed up the women's section of the store pretty badly. It's this curiosity and lack of knowledge that gives Teddie a sort of innocent and naive charm. Things like saying words he just heard and/or doesn't know the meaning to and asking lots of questions about things most people should know are common behaviors of his.
In general, it's because of this that Teddie tends to act much like a child than he does a teenager. He has a very simple way of thinking and complex ideas easily confuse or frustrate him. He likes sweet foods, ice cream --'topsicles' being his favorite--stories with happy endings, and songs with upbeat tunes. Therefore, Teddie has an easier time connecting and relating with children rather than his own 'peers'. This is why he becomes extremely close friends with the protagonist's six-year-old cousin, Nanako. (Who he affectionately refers to as 'Nana-chan')
With a child-like personality, however, comes all the negative aspects of one, too. Teddie is prone to crying, whining, and throwing tantrums when he doesn't get his way or doesn't fully understand something. He will shout, flail his arms, and genuinely be a nuisance. His work ethic is surprisingly nonexistent. To put it simply, he's lazy when it comes to manual work. At his job at Junes, he tends to cut corners and take naps in the mattress section when on the clock. He seems to have no shame in this, either, fully admitting and almost proud of his laziness.
Along with that, Teddie has been known to display some animalistic characteristics. He will growl when he's angry, although it's not very threatening, attempt to roar, and is not above biting stray fingers that venture too close to his mouth. He's getting better when it comes to these mannerisms, but they do tend to 'shine' when he's in a battle.
In social situations, Teddie has proven to be, well, awkward. Again, thanks to living alone the majority of his life, he has a hard time with what's acceptable and what is not when dealing with other people. He sees no problem when it comes to invading personal space, staring, and he has a very weird habit of rolling around for little to no reason. In fact, if Teddie isn't acting socially inept, his friends become suspicious because they're just that used to it by now. Even though he can be annoying, Teddie can at least pass for tolerable and it's pretty easy to ignore his ...Teddieness.
If there's one thing Teddie loves, though, it's humans. Humans were pretty much a huge deciding factor when it came to basically his whole direction in life, literally shaping him to what he is today. Before humans, all Teddie ever knew was loneliness. There was nothing else. It was only when the team came crashing down from the sky did he find the joys of friendship, companionship, or even simply having his existence acknowledged.
Girls, in particular, are Teddie's favorite. Thanks to an earlier conversation when the team was battling Yukiko's Shadow, Teddie has a fascination with 'scoring'. He then developed the nasty little habit of becoming a huge flirt, hitting on the girls of the team whenever possible. This, of course, always fails, but Teddie doesn't seem to slow down or give up on it. It is unclear whether or not Teddie actually knows what scoring is. Although, because of his general lack of understanding most things anyway, it can be assumed that he doesn't and all advances should be taken with a grain of salt. Either way, he has dreams of 'smooching' and will only ever let girls pet his silky soft fur. He will outright deny any male requests for petting, seen multiple times when Kanji asks. (Although it is apparently possible to win him over via an act of kindness and/or for a favor)
All this joyful bear stuff is only one side to him, though. In actuality, Teddie is a surprisingly complex critter. He has a lot of feelings, most of them conflicting, and he doesn't understand how to express them properly half the time. This is, again, due in part to living the majority of his life completely isolated from other sentient life. As one can imagine, actually being introduced to outside life has expanded his view on the world and, in turn, has opened up many new feelings and questions that he now seeks answers to.
For the longest time, one of those questions was who or what he was thanks to some self induced amnesia. The majority of his character arc seems to be focused on this and it causes him a great deal of stress. Of course, when he eventually finds out he was originally a Shadow, he's not too happy about that and can see why he forced himself to forget in the first place. It's thanks to the help of the protagonist and Nanako that he comes to accept this and is declared "just like humans" by his friends where it doesn't seem to bother him anymore.
Teddie also has bouts of separation anxiety, he doesn't like being alone now that he knows what friendship is. He has been noted outright refusing to return to the TV World on his own, rather wanting to stay with Yosuke and putting up with working at Junes than having to deal with staying there again. When Teddie does believe it's time to return, he'll usually sulk and ask if he can still stay, to which the answer is always a yes and no one can understand why Teddie keeps asking that. It can be hinted through this that it's a constant worry of his that he'll be forced to go back one day. This changes near the end of the game once the TV world is restored to its beautiful self and Teddie has no issues with going back. He'll still visit from time to time. Or a lot. You can never rid yourself of bear.
It's also because of this that Teddie is very attached to anyone he makes friends with. No matter how much he may argue with some of them, he adores them all and would put his life on the line for any of them. The last thing Teddie wants is to lose any of his friends and, so help him, you better not mess with them.
Speaking of, this is the only thing that allows him to fight. Normally, Teddie is a coward. Large, spooky things usually frighten him, UNLESS he has someone to back him up and encourage him OR he's protecting his friends. Teddie has described these moments of courage as his feet just moving on their own at least twice. Since gaining a Persona, Teddie doesn't run away screaming as much as he used to, but if something seems like a monster to him, you can be sure he's not going to try and make friends right away.
All in all, Teddie is like an emotional roller coaster. He's normally a happy-go-lucky, comic relief sort of guy, but every now and then he could use a little pick-me-up. You get used to him.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
+Kind Teddie's biggest desire is to be loved and accepted by people, it's why he chose a bear form in the first place. As such, he will try to befriend anyone who gives him any sort of attention. He loves to make friends.
+Loyal Adding onto the first point, anyone who does become his friend pretty much becomes a friend for life. Teddie doesn't have family, so his friends are everything to him.
+Funny Teddie loves to joke and make people laugh, even at his own expense. He wants nothing more than to see others smile.
+Crafting/Resourceful For whatever reason (It's never explained), Teddie is very good at making glasses. Who even knows out of what or why, he just does it. He can also make dolls, out of his own fur even. He can probably make other things too if given the right motivation.
+Curious/Eager to learn Everything is still kind of new for Teddie, and he wants to learn it all.
-Annoying Teddie's idea of humor isn't for everyone, and others might easily find him grating. He also has a terrible flirting problem that drives his female friends up the wall.
-Ignorant Because of his lack of real world experience, Teddie often comes off as stupid. In reality, he's just really ignorant and naive to how the world works, but it doesn't make it any less annoying.
-Socially awkward Personal bubbles are nonexistent in Teddie's world. He loves to stick his nose in places it doesn't belong out of curiosity, or mess up display cases or whatever he can get his hands on if he gets too excited. If you don't know how to control him, you might have a difficult time.
-Immature Teddie tends to act more like a child than he does a teenager. He's prone to crying and tantrums if he doesn't get his way.
-Dependent on other people/Lazy Although he's capable of taking care of himself (how else do you survive the TV World?) Teddie has admitted he'd much rather have people take care of him instead. This is probably because he's prone to loneliness and can get a bit clingy. He's also a slacker when it comes to work. Food motivation usually helps.

[The feed starts off with a nice, blurry view of...someone's nose. It stays like that for a good second or two before the video wiggles about and a shuffling noise can easily be heard. Looks like someone's learning on the spot. Thankfully it doesn't take too long before it zooms out and focuses on the weird little blonde kid holding the thing.]
Woah-ho! Guess who just got a fancy new cellphone~ [He pauses for a few seconds, smiling eagerly. It's like he really expects people to guess.] That's right, this bear! ...O-Oh! But that's not all, there's also...
[More shuffling as he bends over, the feed once again becoming a blurry mess before he stands back up. This time, however, he's now accompanied by an adorable blue and white bear on his shoulder.]
...This bear! [The Cubchoo raises her paws in the air and cheers, just as excited as her trainer.] Aw yeah, we got a bear combo going on here! Yosuke's gonna be so jealous~
[He snickers to himself, his pokemon giggling along despite not getting it, before Teddie stops all too suddenly as he comes to a horrible realization. He didn't recall putting in a phone number...]
Hey, wait a minute! Who the heck am I even callin' here?!
[More fiddling now, and before he can even get an answer, the feed ends. That...that wasn't the right button at all.]
Third Person Sample:
"GAH-AHH!! Wh-Where is it?!'
Random odds and ends of goods flew in the air and even hit a few trees as Teddie knelt down over his backpack and began throwing just about everything his hands could grab. Frantic, he searched every inch of that bag before he finally reached the bottom, pulling out an unfamiliar outfit. His face dropped, absolutely crushed, and he proceeded to grab at his hair and pull, obviously frustrated. A low growl even slipped through his teeth, old habits die hard.
"I-I can't bearlieve it, I lost my fur! My fur! My magnificent silky coat, all lost and alone without me! Nggghhh, I'm gonna be a bear naked bear at this rate!"
With one last disgruntled growl, he tossed this lesser outfit without a single care and lowers his head in defeat. A bear without its fur...it's practically a crime. However, before it could even hit the ground, his Cubchoo managed to catch it just in time, as well as a few other things she was able to save from her owner's spectacular tantrum. There's a tiny sigh of relief from her, expecting everything to be over. After all, she did build up a good pile of stuff. There was only so much those tiny arms could hold!
...That was until Teddie peeked over his shoulder, right at her. A sort of...mischievous glint in his eye.
"I know..."
There's an almost evil chuckle in his voice. Before Cubchoo even had a chance to bolt, Teddie rushed in front of her on all fours, holding out one of his arms at her. He couldn't look more excited even if he tried.
"We can totally track it down! I so know you can 'cause I used to do it aaaalll the time!" he beamed at his own genius, holding out his arm even closer in hopes to encourage his pokemon to sniff him, get his scent. "Go on, don't be shy~"
Hesitantly, Cubchoo takes a few small sniffs before her nose began to wiggle. Once...twice... Teddie watched, confused by her actions, his head tilted to one side.
"H-Hey, what's the hold up?"
There are no words, Cubchoo instead responds with a nice big sneeze, all over her trainer's arm. The kind of sneeze that instantly encased it in a shimmering layer of ice. Teddie could only stare at it in a silent awe, his eyes large and wide at the power this tiny bear possessed. It actually reminded him a lot of himself, who knew ice powers were just a bear thing? Go figure.
"Heheh...M-Maybe he should do this some other time," he gave his partner a reassuring smile, so she knew well enough he wasn't mad over that. He...he's sure it was just an accident. "You know, I always wondered what it'd be like to be a topsicle..."
