You know, I think I'm starting to notice most people have more pokey-pals than me...

[In which Teddie begins to do something he does from time to time: Think. In this case, he's decided to ponder out loud and share with the rest of the class. Because, you know, sharing is caring.]

So this miiiiight sound a little weird, but I'm just wondering if it's normal to only have a little bit. Pops got super into the whole catchy thing, and he's really REALLY good at it, but it got to the point where he can't take all of 'em with him anymore! Rise-chan has a whole bunch, too... I only got a whopping three, hrm...

I dunno, I suppose I'd just feel all bad if I had to leave any of them bearhind. I guess what I'm really trying to say is, how does everyone else handle that? I know it's totally normal, but what makes it normal? Don't they get lonely?

[And that's really what it comes down to. As someone who can't ~~bear~~ handle even the idea of being alone, the last thing he'd want to do is force that on a wee little animal right after he plucked it from its home. As far as Teddie goes, this is actually a very serious subject.]

I don't think that's weird at all! I mean back home I only had my dog, Cerbee. Then when I was here a couple weeks, for a long time the only Pokemon I had were an Electrike, Buizel, Sentret, and Goomy.

After that I sorta just...ended up getting more, over time! So it wasn't like I got, like, forty Pokemon all at once.

[Which is something of a lot, he realizes. It's less than a lot of veterans have, but it's a pretty daunting number for someone who hasn't been here as long.

Jimmy props his head up in one hand as he continues, his other idly petting the top of his Manectric's head that's currently flopped over his knees.]

I usually let most of my Pokemon stay at the Circus tent here in Goldenrod. They've all got each other for company, plus all the other Pokemon here...and they're always busy with something to do! I've got a couple others staying at Jack's Mansion, too.

I know what'cha mean about not really wanting to put 'em in the PC, though. But I think as long as you make sure to check on them every once and a while, it's okay.

[See, that's the thing, though. In some weird moment of clarity, Teddie just knows he's going to somehow forget someone if he drops them in there. It's a scary thought, he doesn't want to risk being that guy.

But Jimmy does give him a glimmer of hope.]

Now wait a minute, you can just leave them places and that's okay?!

[At least Teddie is conscious of his own potential misgivings. Jimmy's confident that that wouldn't happen, though. Even when you have a lot of Pokemon, it's hard not to get attached to each and every one of them. At least, that's how it is for him.]

Well, you can't just leave them anywhere. But since I work here and it's got enough room for a lot of Pokemon, it's okay! I don't think you could if you worked in a shop or something. But a lotta people let their Pokemon stay at their houses if they have one.

So what I'm hearing is...I'm gonna need a house...

[Enter Teddie: Homeowner. Never mind that he's a minor, that doesn't mean anything in this day in age. If anything, they should just give him a house right now for being so progressive.]

Or pawsibly four houses... It depends how many scorebats I wanna get now. [He nods to himself as he thinks it over.] Hrm, I'm gonna need a loooooot of balls.

[Yeah, he said it. And he stands by it.]

[If you can legally own and train a large quantity of dangerous elemental creatures as a minor here, you certainly can own a house because why not.]

That'd be a good idea! There are a lot of houses in different towns you can-

What's a scorebat?

[Teddie's eyes light up, as if Jimmy just asked him the best question ever.]

It's a magical bat whose special power is scoring. The moment I get to Can-too, I'm gonna get one!

Er, well, I was gonna get just one, but if I can put 'em all in a house, then I don't see why I can't have more.

You can catch as many as you want, I guess...but what do you mean, scoring? I've never heard of that before.

[Which is surprising, since he's been here over a year. Is this some kind of ability he hasn't heard of?]

I'm not super into catching Pokemon.

[Don't spread lies about him, son.]

To be honest, I really don't know how comfortable I feel with having one of my Pokemon in the "Box". I thought about stopping catching Pokemon now but whoever's in the Box would probably be lonely by themselves.

[It's not lying if it's the truth. Gosh, stop being so modest. Also Teddie isn't about to do texting right now, nobody needs Teddie's texting.]

Y-You see?! You're caught in a downward spiral, tumbling down the circley stairs of the trainer life! Soon you're gonna have a whole neighbearhood in those boxes, like some kinda...some kinda other world!

Y-You know. Scoring.

[Isn't that what every human wants ever? Don't make him try to come up with a definition, he doesn't have one.]

Erm, hang on a sec...I drew a picture after I saw it in a book...

[Pretty soon, after Teddie's pocket digging adventures, Jimmy will find himself looking at a poorly drawn doodle of a puff ball with an adorable heart in the center. Truly this is art.]

I'm not going to do that, Teddie.

[Then a thought hit him.]

If you want you could borrow whatever Pokemon I'm not training at the moment so that they won't be in a Box.

[Jimmy squints at the picture, tilting his head to the side.]

Huh! That kindof looks familiar...not a Noibat or a Zubat, though. You said it's called a Scorebat?

Or something along those lines.

[DOES THIS LOOK LIKE THE FACE OF A SCHOLAR TO YOU?]

But the book said that if they leave a heart mark on your body, you'll get good luck. And there's only one kinda luck I can think of when it comes to hearts~

[Woah there friend, that's a heck of a lot of trust right there. Perry must be confused, therefore Teddie just has to make sure.]

Y-You want me...to be a pokey-babysitter?

[Is this...is this responsibility?]

[WELL...]

Huh...well, it is pretty cute!

[For a fluffball with wings, anyway. Also he still doesn't know what scoring is??]

How many do you think you're gonna catch? Kanto's where you said they were, right?

Yup, that's right. But I guess it's pretty far away...

[Ugh, why is travel so...long? Inaba was never this big, and even then they had trains to get to the farther places. What is wrong with this world?!]

If I can catch just one, I think I'll be satisfied. Luckily, I just so happen to have my fool proof secret weapon~

[Look, he's not going to entrust Teddie with someone like Petra. He'll probably just give him one of his more lax Pokemon.]

In a sense. Unless you plan on having us separate anytime soon though I'll still be there to help.

A secret weapon, huh? What's that, Teddie?

[Explosives. ...Okay, not really, but the way he chuckles almost makes it seem like that's what it is. Teddie bends over, and instead of picking up a bomb, he holds up...a teddiursa! One that looks like she's half asleep! Lazily, she waves into the feed, like this is all completely normal.]

Ta-ta-ta-da~! Tomo-chan has her own special ability where she makes the area smell SOOO good that all the pokeys come a-runnin'! Hehehe, how can any scorebat resist?

[Ever since his tiny bear learned Sweet Scent, Teddie's been abusing it quite often. It makes training 100x easier when you're a lazy ass.]

Huh? You really think I'd up and leave you like that?!

[There's only one thing that could possibly get Teddie to split, and that's if one of his friends showed up. Until then, Perry will just have to deal.]

[Jimmy chuckles, offering the tiny bear a little wave in return.]

Oh, Sweet Scent! My Ivysaur knows that too! It's real handy when you wanna train a lot, and Pokemon really seem to like it!

I know I loooove it.

[And just to prove his point, Teddie promptly holds Tomomi closer and gives a good sniff. As...bizarre as that is, the bear doesn't seem to mind, although whether it's because she looks like she's ready to fall asleep any second now or because she's just used to her trainer's antics is anyone's guess.]

This is actually my first time planning to go get one, turns out it's a lot harder than just running into something... That's why I was so worried about what would happen if I got a whole bunch. It just seems like people get addicted to it.

Haha, well I wish you both luck! Catching Pokemon can be pretty tricky sometimes, but it's always really cool when you can add new members to your team. Isn't that right, Leader?

[He asks the electric type in his lap, who just gives a long sigh of affirmation.]

Of course you wouldn't, that's why I'm sure I can trust you with one of y Pokemon.

I think that's perfectly alright. It's personal preference, in any case; I like dividing my attention amongst them equally so I try not to have too many, whereas one of my old friends seemed to be a collector of sorts.

Either way, it's still a normal way to train them.
